Learning Music Starts with the Piano

The piano is a foundation instrument for many musicians, myself included. I loved getting to know music through the simple visuals of the piano! Playing the piano helps budding musicians learn to sight read, learn basic scales and steps, and gain confidence performing. That’s why I’m so passionate about teaching piano lessons in El Paso, TX!

Whether you want to raise kids with a musical ear OR you’re following your musical dreams as an adult, there’s no better place to start than the piano! Here are some commonly asked questions about learning the piano.

Why Should I Learn the Piano?

You might be asking why you should start with the piano! Well, one reason is that  learning the piano is a gateway to learning other instruments. I got my degree with an emphasis in piano back in 2019, and now I also play the organ, guitar, flute, and ukulele! Once you learn the basic notes and chords, the sky is the limit.

Should Kids Learn the Piano?

I’ve taught piano lessons to kids aged 5-75, and I feel like it’s valuable at every age. Piano lessons teach rhythm, musicality, sight-reading, tones and scales, and performance skills, so it has many transferable skills for kids! Plus, many parents like to see their child grow in confidence and take responsibility for their creative expression!

How Can I Find a Good Piano Teacher?

Any musician will tell you that a good music teacher is key to creating a positive experience with music, especially for children. Beyond simply finding a good musician, it’s important to find a good teacher. A teacher can guide a student through exercises, help pick appropriate performance pieces, and help a student grow their confidence from week to week. Try to find a teacher that has good rapport with past students, and ask for a trial lesson before committing to long-term lessons.

Where Can I Get Lessons?

Most people have great success finding teachers in their community who are willing to offer lessons. I offer piano lessons for ALL ages, for ALL levels, right here in Northeast El Paso. But if you can’t make it to the border, I also offer virtual piano lessons—all you need is your own keyboard or piano. 🙂
