Should I Learn the Piano as an Adult?

As a piano teacher here in El Paso, I often work with kids! Starting at around age five, many students enroll in formal classes—and I even lead a Summer Piano Camp for children. But what if you want to learn the piano as an adult? Is it too late?

Will Learning as an Adult Be Too Difficult?

Some people believe that if they didn’t learn music as a young person, that somehow their time has passed! I’m happy to tell you there’s no limit to learning the piano! I have taught students as old as 75!

How Much Time Will I Need to Learn the Piano?

If you want to learn the piano, you should set aside time for weekly lessons, and, ideally, daily practicing for around a half-hour! Even so, the time needed to “learn” the piano will depend on the level of proficiency and style you’re hoping to play. I can have you playing simple songs within just a few lessons!

What Would I Need to Learn the Piano as an Adult?

Next, what materials will you need to learn the piano as an adult? You’ll need a piano or keyboard to practice on, of course! You will also need music books or sheet music to practice on, but I can help you find the materials you’re looking for after your first piano lesson in El Paso. It’s not more complicated than that!

How Can I Find Adult Piano Lessons?

To find adult piano lessons, search for musicians in your community first! For example, I’m teaching right out of my home here in Northeast El Paso. If you find it hard to meet me here due to work or childcare, I also offer virtual lessons, and I’d love to see if they’re right for you!

So, are you ready to learn the piano as an adult? Learning the piano can really help you grow in your musical knowledge and your personal confidence! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me, I’d love to talk with you and find out if we’re a good fit!
